V60 Recipes

Hario V60 One Cup

I'm using a plastic (plastic is better for keeping the brewer at the right temperature than ceramic) size 01 V60 with 01 sized filters. This is adapted from Hoffmann's 1 cup V60 recipe.

  1. Boil 10 oz / 300 g of water. You'll be using 9oz / 250 g of water for the coffee, and some of the rest to rinse the filter and warm your cup and cone.

  2. Grind 15 grams of beans to about a table salt size (Setting 10 on the Baratza Encore or 20 clicks on the Comandante C40)

  3. Run some of the hot water through your filter, cone, and into your mug to heat them up

  4. Discard the water in your mug

  5. Pour the grinds into the filter

  6. With your finger create a little indentation in the middle of grounds to help with the bloom phase

  7. Pour 50 g of the boiling water on the coffee and let it bloom for 45 seconds

  8. While the coffee blooms, give the V60 a slight swirl, or a gentle stir

  9. After the bloom, pour another 50 g of water over the course of 10 seconds in a circular pattern (don't pour in just one spot)

  10. Let it drain for about 10 seconds

  11. You should now have 100 g of water through the coffee

  12. Repeat the process three more times until you get a total of 250 g of water

  13. On the last pulse of water, do another swirl

  14. Let it drain, and throw away the filter and coffee

  15. Aim to finish drawdown by 3 minutes and 30 seconds

  16. Stir the coffee in your mug

  17. Enjoy

Hario V60 Two cup

I'm using a plastic size 02 V60 with 02 sized filters. This is adapted from Hoffmann's recipe.

  1. Boil 18 oz / 510 g of water. You’ll be using 18 oz / 440 g of water for the coffee, and some of the rest to rinse the filter, and warm your cup and cone.

  2. Grind 26 grams of beans to about a table salt size (Setting 10 on the Baratza Encore or 20 clicks on the Comandante C40)

  3. Run some of the hot water through your filter, cone, and into your mug to heat them up

  4. Discard the water in your mug

  5. Pour the grinds into the filter and cone

  6. With your finger create a little indentation in the middle of grounds to help with the bloom phase

  7. Pour about 60 g of the boiling water on the coffee and let it bloom for 45 seconds

  8. Over the next 30 seconds, pour the next 180 g of water so you have a total of 240 g.

  9. Gently swirl the V60

  10. Pour the remaining 200 g of water over the coffee over the next 30 seconds.

  11. Do a little stir in one direction, then a little stir in the opposite direction. This will move the coffee gently from the sides of the filter.

  12. Let it drain a bit, then gently swirl the brewer one last time.

  13. Let it drain, and throw away the filter and coffee

  14. Aim to finish drawdown by 3 minutes and 30 seconds

  15. Stir the coffee in your mug

  16. Enjoy!
